My favorite music artist/ band

Hello everyone, this time I will tell you about my favorite artist.

My favorite artist is René Pérez Joglar, better known as a “Residente”. He is a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and producer of urban music. He was born on February 23, 1978 in Hato Rey, San Juan, Puerto Rico.

He was a founding member and vocalist of the "Calle 13" group between 2004 and 2014, a band that he joined with his half-sister Ileano Cabra Joglar, better known as “ILe”, and his half-brother Eduardo Cabra Martínez, better known by his stage name of “Visitante”.

In 2015 René began his solo career, highlighting his lyrics with a broad social and political content, combining different genres of so-called "world music" with alternative rap.

Throughout his career, René has been recognized with various awards, including 32 Grammys awards, considering his participation in "Calle 13" and his solo career.

In the year 2009 was censored in Puerto Rico, this after publicly insulting Governor Luis Fortuño, after he ended up with 30,000 public jobs within the framework of his Economic Reconstruction Plan.

In 2019, René, along with artists of Puerto Rican origin, were activists protesting against the then Governor of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Roselló, which resulted in his resignation from office.

On February 27, 2020, Residente published "René", a song through which, with its lyrics, it recounts different episodes that he lived throughout his life.
